Thoughts on the Presidential Election of 2012
by Gerri Gibney on 01/21/13
The national election is over and we are all asking “what happened?” We can blame everyone and everything, but it will still come to the same conclusion; we lost. We didn’t lose a little, we lost a lot. I’m not telling you something you don’t know. The question still remains, why?
I’ve got a theory and I’m writing it down in order to try and make some sense of my great confusion as to “why?” Here it is; God is telling us something. Just like in the Hebrew Testament when something happened to His people it was a message to them. They either woke up, or they didn’t, and therefore suffered the consequences, sometimes good, sometimes bad.
If you were like me in the last month, I prayed for God to “save
I believe Mitt Romney ran a decent campaign and see no reason to second guess what he did or didn’t do. From a political standpoint I have my ideas as to why we failed, especially the fact that the Tea Party sat out this time because of their perceived slight of Sarah Palin. They could be right, but it is inconceivable to me that something as important as the very fate of the nation would be taken so lightly as to disenfranchise yourself because you were annoyed that Sarah was not made much of in the campaign.
But, is that the real reason God has forsaken us? God doesn’t care about our politics, He does, however, care about each of us and of our nation created “as one nation under God.” As Paul Ryan explained at the beginning of the campaign; government doesn’t give us our rights, God does. We all know Paul is right. The problem is that half of the population doesn’t know it.
Look at your own faith group. We are afraid to upset someone if we say the word God, or Jesus in a public prayer. Instead, we have let a small fringe group of people drive us from the public square. When there is time of turmoil and trouble, when there is a terrible disaster, when we have been attacked, who does the “government” turn to? Why, God, of course, but don’t bring him into our lives otherwise. Oh no, that wouldn’t be nice, we might offend someone!
Look at the public square. We are all sinners, but at one time, not so long ago, we at least had standards. In the Christian and Jewish faith groups we have the Ten Commandments to let us know why we are sinners. Now in the public square we are not allowed to display God’s Law, and equally as bad, we don’t teach them, we don’t preach them, and we really don’t believe them. How else could we interpret our total disregard for God’s law? God wrote those Laws for a reason. He wants us to be happy, productive people, and the best way to do that is follow His Law. I know we all break those Laws in one way or another either by thought, word, or deed. We know that, but do we really? Think about the Law. We have made them adjuncts to our lives, not the way to live our lives.
The Democrat Party booed and shouted down God even being mentioned in their latest Party platform, it was only after the chairman of the DNC by fiat said; “the ayes have it” that it was put into their platform. Almost all of the delegates present shouted down God. Why should He be with any of us? God is evidently not welcome in their Democratic Party and by extension not in their lives, and what about the rest of us? Why didn’t every person of faith say, we stand up for God, not boo him down. Instead, we sit silent, and some of us even voted for the Democratic candidate.
In my town, half of the registered voters pulled the lever for Obama. Why? I believe many of these people simply don’t know what his policies are, and what he plans for
Do they want government to tell them how to raise their children? Obama is planning to sign a treaty on behalf of the
There are more UN treaties Obama will be a party to, including the right to own arms. In the meantime, I am still asking what happened, and I am beginning to believe that God is withdrawing His favor of the
